PeckyBeak
I bought a Lavender Araucana from a very reputable source, she has been laying since October but the eggs are a pinky white. I thought that all Araucana's laid blue eggs, is that not the case? I wouldn't swop her anyway as she is an absolute delight, like a little ballerina the way she prances around, we call her DJ Silvie as her ear muffs look like headphones. Would post a pic. but not worked out how to yet.
tom123
Here's how to post pics All pure bred araucanas should lay Blue eggs. Some strains lay green but a pinky white egg isn't right Does she look like this... Tom
laurmurf
the araucana club is discussing how to 'define' the breed and they're currently saying that if it DOESN'T lay a blue egg then it isn't a pure araucana but crossed with something else. It should be a defining genetic feature, so i'm afraid yours isn't as pure as she could be!
PeckyBeak
Thanks, Finally sorted out some pics of DJ Silvie and her pinky white egg, can't help but love her even if she isn't as 'pure' as she could be. pix fixed by enpekt... tom123
She looks like a Leghorn x Araucana Not pure but a stunner! What a lovely hen
Ain't Nobody Here
She's very pretty whatever colour eggs she lays .
enpekt
I love her too! She's a beautiful DJ, just needs decks.
chuckmum6
I'd agree she isn't a pure Araucana, but she is a very pretty girl and she can see properly! My araucana has a mop of feathers that mean she can't see much in front of her - she gets a few surprises, like when she bumps into our cat! http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac247/morrowsall/omlet%20pics/P1030308.jpg Edited January 24, 2010 by Guest
Saronne
I'd agree she isn't a pure Araucana, but she is a very pretty girl and she can see properly! My araucana has a mop of feathers that mean she can't see much in front of her - she gets a few surprises, like when she bumps into our cat! Does she make 'squeaky-gate' noises like mine, or does she 'bok-bok'? Saronne x
chuckmum6
She is a squeaky chook, still sounds a bit like a chick at times but she's a big girl now 5 months old! A very funny bird, seems quite dim, but I think it's the obscured vision - then again maybe she is just a bit thick! I'm very envious of your egg though, Hen's not laying yet! Saronne
Juanita is a little bit older than your LA. The days are getting longer so hopefully, yours will start to lay soon! Saronne x
chuckmum6
Got my dates wrong - she's hatch at the beginning of July so she is nearly 7 months old! Come on that girl!
Saronne
Juanita was hatched the 26th of June - so 7 months old. But she's only just started laying. I'm sure yours won't be long.. Saronne x
Redwing
The face looks a bit Faverolle and the egg colour is correct for one too so maybe she is part Fav? Very sweet hen though
Egluntyne
She is lovely, but you have been sold a 'dud' for want of a better word. Very naughty of the breeder to fob you off. Have you contacted them about it?
PeckyBeak
Thanks for all of your comments, Love the photo of your beautiful hen Chuckmum6. Haven't contacted dealer yet, but am hoping to get another couple of hens soon from him so will mention it then. Other chooks I have had from him have been 'as advertised' and I now have an excuse to get another chook that is a true Araucana!
chuckmum6
I got my first egg from Hen Solo today (as seen in the earlier picture), a bit more green than blue at the moment, do you think that will change?
Saronne
Ooh, hard to say. Green sounds very pretty, though. Saronne x P.S. well done Hen Solo!
