Thanks Debs, this couldn't have happened at a worse time for me.I had my hernia operated on three years ago (15 staples and 5 scars!).I didn't realise that it could happen again, but my niece who is a med student has told me that it can - so thats me off to the docs on Monday - although with this flu bug,I guess I will have to wait til it's gone. :(

Aww thanks folks, my hubby is going mad at me as I haven't been to the doc ( I was incredibly ill last time :( ). So I will defo make an appointment on Monday!

As for our holibobs- we are going camping here: www.labaume-lapalmeraie.com/

We actually drive there which is a bit of a pain, but we stop at a place called ferme du planet

on the way down. It's the most gorgeous place and I could happily stop there for ever (they have amazing chickens!!) :)

Well DippyBird, your post has strangely cheered me up. I am just recovering from a second bout of flu and haven't been properly well since December 6th. It is nice to know I am not the only person!

My first flu was Swine flu I think characterised by loss of appetite and a terrible cough. This second one has had the most horrendous sore throat imaginable lasting a full 7 days. Both gave me terrible joint and bone aches. I am really hoping today is the last day, but I still don't feel very good.

I am really sorry you are unwell again. I'm sure you are fed up with being ill and not being able to go anywhere. I hope that knowing someone else has been ill twice is comforting in some small way, as it was for me! Take care of yourself.

Ginette- I'm glad I've cheared you up. :)

I cannot get in to see my doc for another week :x so I have to put up with the pain for a bit longer, also sore throat, snotty nose and wheezy chest :(

On a fun note,at least I can breathe my germs on the patronising adviser at the job centre tomorrow when I go to sign on...

Chaps,

It is possibly not a second bout, but the first one returning. apparently flu does that. I had flu this time last year for the first time in my life, and was out for about 6 weeks in total. The doctor explained that it is quite common for the virus to lie dormant, or to lodge somewhere - in my case in my ears, giving me vertigo - also apparently quite common.

Just go to bed with a warm chicken to hug, and feel sorry for yourself til it goes away.

Huge hugs to all those with flu, I can still remember how awful I felt. :(

I hope you feel better soon Dippy Bird. My GP has prescribed antibiotics now. My throat is not as sore as it was, but still sore so I am hoping it will get better soon. I feel totally drained and have no stamina at all. But I am now so bored with being unwell that I'm getting depressed.

ChickenNutter - if the flu comes back, does it come back in the same type? My second bout was very different from the first.

I still feel lousy!! My throat is killing me (not literally), I have a rotten cough, and a snotty nose :vom: When am I going to feel better? I am supposed to be seeing my doc on Monday about my hernia, but if I still feel like this, should I actually be going to the surgery and risk spreading my germs??

Oh poor you. How long have you had the sore throat now?

I'm afraid mine is still a bit sore and I'm on the 5th day of antibiotics. But it is a lot better than it was last week.

I would think you can't go to the doctor if you still have a heavy cold and cough on Monday. 3 days to go though, so i hope you're a lot better by then. I found Day Nurse very good during the day and it was such a pleasure to swallow! My GP suggested I use a mouthwash/gargle thing called Difflam which you can buy over the counter. i think that helped to reduce the inflammation too.

Hernias can be dangerous, so it is not wise to leave it any longer than Monday. You could ring the surgery and ask for advice re coming in to see the doctor, but don't let them put you off. If they don't want you there, the doctor will have to come to you!

Good luck!
