What to get - * 6 wk photos added!

Recommended Posts

He only had 5 Silver laced eggs by today, so I had the option, take 5 eggs and get a refund for the 6th or have a blue laced egg instead as I want them ASAP as the other eggs arrive tomorrow - now I couldn't have an odd number in the incy could I?

So the 12 mixed eggs have arrived:

Large Fowl

2 * Buff Orpington

1 Rhode Island Red

1 Exchequer Leghorn

1 Cream Legbar

1 Silkie (not sure what colour photos show 2 colours)

Bantams

1 Buff Plymouth Rock

2 Frizzle (not sure of what photo looks like partridge pekin)

1 White Leghorn

1 Black Pekin

1 Silver Partridge Pekin

5 SL dottes & 1 blue laced due to be here tomorrow.

:D:D

I think incy will be started Thursday midday, banties going in 24hr/36hr later.

Hurrah! those SL dottes look good :D

Not sure about the legbar orp being a breed though.....

yes the legbar orp on his website got me too! Now if it is the invention of an autosexing orp that could be fun, but not much clue about it given.

The last lot of eggs arrived safely today however when I went to but them with the others to rest in the outhouse I discovered the mesh from the brooder had fallen onto the other eggs and smashed 2 :x so I have lost the Plymouth Rock & Silkie egg before they even saw the incy - I have examined the others and cannot see any damage.

:x:x I really wanted a silkie and unless I can find some eggs locally for collection tomorrow I will have to wait until I am next replacing some hens. I guess the odds of getting a female when I only had one silkie egg to start with were slim, but at least I had some chance.

Re the legbar/crele orp thing; I don't understand it personally, but Leon has had Legbars for a few years now. On the website the boy looks good, but the girl looks unfinished (tho she has got the right underlying characteristics, you can see how they will develop over a few generations). He is really known as an orp breeder - his birds are fabulous, particularly the GL (German lines) and the blacks aren't bad either

Sorry to hear about the smashed eggies :(

So they are all now in the inncy - sticky tap and nail varnish on the two cracked ones, the banties went in 24 hrs later than the others so hopefully a hatch around the same time, but with 12 different birds over 18 eggs of different sizes I am sure hatching will be over a few days anyway.

Well we are now half way through and I have candled this morning - I can only see a clearly identifiable black mass and veins in 4 eggs - ironically two of those are the cracked eggs held together with sticky tape and nail varnish, one egg is too dark for me to see through so potentially 4-5 out of the 12 from e-bay, but given the damaged eggs we will just see how many get to the end fit and healthy.

Then there are the 6 dotty eggs - they all looked odd from candling at 1 week - they had massive odd shaped air sacks and these seem to be continuing, I cannot see any veins, but there is a darker bit on one side on some of them - it could be they are thicker eggs and my economy candler just cannot see in fuly, but I have a feeling they are all duds :(:( At least I have two new POL orps in the garden anyway to keep me happy for now.
