... it used to automatically check for mistakes as I typed but it's not doing it anymore!!

I've looked in the control panel to see if anything's become un-ticked but can't find a link to it...

 

It's probably something very obvious & simple to do, but it's got me flummoxed.

Happened to me a while back,& when it did come back it had defaulted to French

 

Think I just rebooted my computer....is it one on your email,Firefox or IE?

I assume you mean on here...........mine just highlights what it thinks are incorrectly spelt words............& when I right click over the word it gives me the American versions which I can choose to select or ignore as I see fit!

At the moment the forum clock is incorrect ( i.e. + 1hr GMT ). I will change this back to normal late tonight so that all the post are correct as of tomorrow.

 

Spell Checker

We haven't found a good spell checker. The best thing that I can recommend is using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. It coming with a really good spell checker built in - so you can use it on all websites not just ours. You can download it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html . As well as the spell checker it also comes with lots of other goodies and is well worth a look,

I use firefox, so maybe it wasn't an in-built spell checker that was on the forum but firefox's own that used to be on here.

 

I can't understand why it's suddenly disappeared though It's a mystery...

Think I'll get Mr Groovychook on the case. Maybe he'll be able to spot something glaringly obvious!

 

I use Windows Mail for email and it bugs the life out of me that I can only get it to check in US English!

 

... suppose I should just learn to improve my spelling! I've become lazy since I stopped writing longhand so much!

If its on Firefox,then have a look on your add-ons page (under tools), & it should be there.

If not you may need to reload it,but it should be simple enough to do.

 

Just out of interest,have you just upgraded to the new version of Firefox?

I have the spellchecker on Firefox checked, but it's never worked in all the time I've used it.

Funny you should say that,but I just looked at mine,& it doesn't work either,despite being checked.

It seems I have one on my Google tool bar,which I use all the time

Well... I went to tools- then to add-ons and when I went to get the English spell check (which used to there anyway) and all it would offer me was Canadian English or South African English

 

Decided to upgrade to the new firefox, thinking that this would solve the mystery, but alas... no omletty spell check . Have made sure that the option to check my spelling is ticked in the advanced section of tools, so I'm not sure what else I can do.

 

It's all very frustrating!!!

Anyway... the good news is.... that we've fixed it!!!

I googled my problem and found a solution on a techy forum...

 

The crucial information being;

simply right click on any user type-able field, and if you see an option Add dictionaries… do it!

 

And hey presto! It's back! Simples!
