wiganchooks
Hello I've been reading through the threads today, especially that one just below by sarahsausage as one of mine has sourcrop, for the first time. I had suspected it previously as her crop has often been a big watery balloon compared to the others, but it would then go back to normal by itself, it never smelt, and it didn't seem to bother her. Today though she is out of sorts, I assumed a softee (it's my ex-batt who is prone to them), but her crop was massive and watery, so I tipped her up for the first time and was amazed how much came out. [note to self, don't do this in the kitchen next time...] She seems a bit perkier but still not right. I'm reading on here about yoghurt, garlic, flowers of sulphur, alsorts. Any tips for the best and simplest place to start? Thanks very much p.s. don't know if this would have contributed but I've just started mixing their ex-batt crumb with organic feed company pellets to try to stop the softee problem, been mixing the food for about 7 days, might this have caused an upset in the crop? Christian
Unlikely that the change of food has caused it tbh. Try adding Apple cider vinegar to the drinking water to start. If you can, try and tempt her with natural probiotic yoghurt to get some good bacteria into her crop as this really helps. Some have used Daktarin gel but I haven't tried it. I used flowers of sulphur (from ebay) mixed with yoghurt a few times a day and that really did the trick for my hen. Good luck with her If you are in any doubt, then take her to the vet for a proper check up.
