Feeder doors keep closing when I walk away

me and mum went for a ride to a farm to have a 'look' and get some more feed and accidently came home with 3 new girls sooooo excited they are soooo pretty!!!! we got a white silver link, a bluebelle and a speckled one, names winnie, ethal and maud!!! we have put them in the shed for now as it is getting dark and our other 5 girls were doing their nut!! they dont seem to like them already and they only gone from the cardboard box to the shed!

 

We have got half term coming up in a weeks time so can really be hands on with them, as they only 16 weeks at the mo and the woman said not really been handled at all,

 

what tips have you guys got to help me mix them with the new girls and not have any bloody baths!!

They will need there own accomodation until they are at point of lay, so for at least a month.

I'd agree with Claire and add at least another month to that! When I brought home some young ones, i did the introductions over the space of 3 months so that the younger girls grew up and the older girls got used to the idea.

lol upsons farm in hatfield peveral, chelmsford... i wouldnt mind the farm is nearly 30 miles from where i live.... ooopps

My mum got two lovely ginger girls from there. Fizz, her favourite, is SO friendly.

Oh no! I've been and gone and found where it is now. 34 miles from me, but that's practically local in chicken terms . I may soon feel a trip out coming on. Not that I can acquire hens, with more ex-batts on their way to me soon, but just going to look at all the pretty girls with feathers is so much fun - and then there's all the accessories and what looks like a lovely farm shop ...

I live about 15 mins from Upsons but have never bought chickens from them as I thought you had to order them and I like to see the girls before I buy.

 

Good to know that they have some on site.

 

This is where I get all my chicken stuff from normally and they are always very helpful

Anyone interested? Is there a reasonable cafe/pub nearby where we could meet or adjourn to for chicken-chat before or after a visit to the farm? It doesn't look like they have anything on site.

 

If you're interested in a meet, let me know and I'll do the basic organisation (ie find a convenient date and put a post in the Get-Togethers section ). Those that are not in the market for more girlies had best leave money and cards at home and any large bags will be searched before leaving!

I would be interested in a meet, but just be warned they don't often have chickens for sale there, in the past you have had to order them in. I have been going there regularly since August and I have never seen any running around any where.

 

The shop is good, but not that big and they specialise in Horse stuff which a lot of this we use for our girls too; they also have farm shop type things too.

 

I am not trying to run it down as I like the shop and the people who run it couldn't be more helpful, but if you are thinking it is going to have a lot of chickens to look at you may be disappointed - unless of course they have changed in the last three weeks

They had 3 big pens full of chickens when i went there, they had their own laying hens which supplies the farm shop with eggs and then a 'for sale' girls was a coop of over 100 when i went, they has had them 3 days when i went to get mine. Rang them before heading there to double check stock,and of course they had them. Would also be interested in meeting.

I'd love a meet up with fellow 'chicken heads'. I've been to Upsons before though, and I'm not sure it's the right place as it's just a little horsey supply place (No cafe or pub either, boo)

I saw an ad in Practical Poultry for Rosehill Hatchery - has anyone been there? I'm guessing they have lots of chickeny things and chooks on offer, no idea if it's any good for a meet up.
