Hmm...total nutter...sounds familiar Yup Joe dog is blonde by colour and a wee bitty silly; especially when he gets to play in the field with mums dog Louis who is a doberman x saluki- big feet and not much control of them! (doesn't happen often with Louis as he's a good 10 pounds heavier and a few inches bigger ) It does mean I have to reassure non lurchery people that they're not fighting...just playing...really rough doesn't help that they like to rar at each other and Louis' got a BIG rar! The course was fab and not half as bad as I thought; although the temptation to slip a chook or two in the car was hard to resist! I have to say I respect chickens a lot more now; it's a lot of effort getting one oven ready but the sore muscles were worth it! I think it was the nicest chicken I've ever eaten (sorry mumsie) now onto doing the one to finish at home! I respect all of you that do this - and maybe one day I will be able to have my own meat birds... Having siad that - while I know it is something I would like to try - I am ever so slightly nervous!! But believe if you eat meat, you should be able to prepare it... (Unlike a certain friend who won't eat one of our eggs, but will eat battery eggs, as can't see where they come from... C&T- its not as bad as I thought it would be; I was very nervous and felt a little guilty (I do animal healing and behaviour in my spare time so it felt a bit wrong) but its so quick and painless and I think more respectful to the chicken than commercial methods plus its so much more filling than supermarket chicken, probably cus its not pumped full of water and chemicals! All I have left are the juices I'm adding to a soup tonight and a few s"Ooops, word censored!"s which will be recycled by the hound That was one of the things I loved on Sunday, Alison told us what is used for what and even the feathers get recycled! Of course I'll need another composter now Here's to the second step to self sufficiency! Poor OH is still a bit freaked out about me standing there doing it and is all like "its not done, there's a smidge of pink!!!" which is definitely down to my lack of butchery skills and slightly mauling the meat! of course joe and simon cat are there waiting to take it off his hands! Little Clucker Posted February 24, 2010 Author Share Posted February 24, 2010 It was a lot of work, my arms have only just gone back to normal but not sure if that was the plucking, boning, or dance rehearsals last night I'll probably bone this one so the prcess sticks in my brain, Joe just hopes I'll accidentally drop it in his bowl!
