Mel (& Paul)
I was wondering the same thing - they are predicting -7 overnight here at weekend. Most of us find that the girls are fine even in really cold weather - dont forget they have been born and bred in England and can cope with much colder weather than we would think. Make sure that their water is free from ice - lots of people bring it in at night, not only to ensure it is not frozen, but also so that it is not too cold for the chickens tums! In the evenings, when you give them some treats think about giving them some porridge and fruit as well as some corn - all nice and warming for them. I know that some people have put extra layers (eg old carpet) etc., over the eglus to provide another layer of insulation. And, Jaifli, the chooks will be laughing at you so much doing your chicken dance in your wellies and pjs that they wont get cold
Cinnamon
Hope the weather doesn't delay the delivery of my Eglu and new girlies - I've waited soo long to be able to order them and now I'm counting the "get-ups" - only two more. I've also been practising my chicken dance.     We will all keep our fingers crossed for you Jaime - there would be nothing worse than an Eglu delay I am going to vaseline my girils combs today & rug'em up tonight I think - it is bitter down here
Christian
Just been out to let the girls out and its -7.3!!!!!! Put my hand through the egg port and its really warm in there. Have been concerned about the girls and cold temps, but not at all worried anymore They have just eaten their warming 'pellet porridge' breakfast (only when its really cold). Bless 'em! Mrs Frugal
Not quite so cold here this morning, Christian. -6.5C but still VERY chilly. I forgot to bring the girls drinker in last night so that will need defrosting before I can empty and refill it!! I'm staying in the warm once I've done that . Christian
Agree with you Sarah, it is stunning out there! Heard a racket from outside and went out to find a beautiful pheasant standing on top of our log store. Ran to get the camera but he flew away . He has been around a lot lately. Think he fancies my girls *Wrap up warm today*

Guest
It's beautiful here today - a thick sparkly frost, cloudless sky, and sun shining through the windows. The garden looks FAB despite the fact that nothing growing, and chickens are skiteing about the place on the frozen patio. Have 2 viewing booked for the house this afternoon, so fingers crossed it stays like this!

chocchick
I liked OH's face yesterday when his washer fluid froze on the windowscreen mid rant about how the inside was dirty and it wouldn't make any difference. Well it was a lot worse.

Egluntyne
Fab day in Sheffield. Blue sky, sunshine, bloomin' cold though! The hens have been able to play out all day for about a week now. Must be good for them. We had an eight egg day yesterday! It's hard to believe that we are supposed to be having snow tomorrow.

Cold in there now the sun's the other side of the house though!! The pond is still frozen.

Darn cold though I must dig out a couple of old rugs to through over the Eglus tonight,to keep the girls extra snug
