Janepie33
I have just bought my male cat Albi back from the vets after having him neutered and microchipped. He is a bit groggy and keeps licking where his bits used to be, but apart from that he seems OK. (I feel really guilty though! Poor boy). The vet nurse told me that I should keep him in for 2 WEEKS. Is this normal? He hates being inside and will be desperate to get out ASAP. Any advice would be gratefully received.
Old Speckled Hen
My advice was always 3 days max. Even queens were allowed out after a week and the surgery is more complicated. I'd ring up and check. I hope he's back to normal soon
Blackrocksrock
I work in a vets and we say keep them in for about 3 days - no need for 3 weeks as males do not have any stitches - some people dont keep them in at all but they need a couple of days to rid themselves of the anaesthetic from their system. Lesley
The only cats we've had neutered have been semi feral farm cats and we only kept them in a shed one day and night as it was stressful for them. They scarpered as soon as we opened the door and hid for a few days. They were fine.
The Dogmother
I've always had the devil of a job keeping any cat in - I just let them rest for 24 hours and let them get on with it.
Old Speckled Hen
I have friends who have a second home(and it is a HOME) in southern France. They had a visiting cat who kept having kittens and the locals, in an effort to "keep the population down" would nab the babies and drown them. As a result this poor cat was ALWAYS pregnant. I tried to talk to their neighbours but One visit I promised to spey the female and neuter the local male. She was OK but he took four times the usual dose to get him down. By the time I'd finished there was a queue of locals with dogs ears to clean, nails to cut and chests to listen to.
The Dogmother
I get that when I visit friends with chooks - 'do you think she's got sour crop?' I don't mind
Janepie33
Thanks everyone. He's really perked up this evening and is running around playing with anything he can get his paws on and yowling to be let out! The other cats think he smells a bit odd and are keeping their distance. I presume Old Speckled Hen and Claret are vets?

Gem_Seb
When i had my cat Seb done they just said to keep him in for a few days, he hates going out anyway so is more of a indoor cat, easy for me! 2 weeks seems a bit over cautious! Even when i had Jodie done they only said to keep her in a few days, she was brilliant though and never even had to have a collar to stop her licking and was up and running about in 24 hrs!!!
