chickenNutter
Well I have finally discovered why Mabel my frizzle is making the loud repetitive crowing noises every morning. It is not because she has laid - it is because the others have! It goes on for over half an hour of really loud repetitive shrieking, not just to announce their eggs, but for the entire time they are laying, or even thinking about laying, or even going into the nest box. Why she can't just mind her own business I don't know, but the other girls laying seems to get her very excited for some reason. It has become every day now, and is incredibly noisy, I am really worried I am going to get complaints from the nighbours, but can't think of a way to stop her. Any ideas? docsquid
No ideas, except mine are extremely nosey too. They can't resist popping into the nest box to have a peek at each other while they are laying, and sometimes announce to all the world what they have been doing. So you are not alone, but mine don't go on for as long as Mabel!
Egluntyne
I have a midwife hen. ....Hufflepuff....always noseying and interfering.
chickencam
One of mine does it because she likes to have the nest box to herself and she likes to go in and out for hours on end before she lays her egg and if someone gets in her way by laying their own egg she makes a real fuss. It is not too bad now because there are only 2 of them in the Eglu at the moment and she is the only one laying so she can take as much time as she likes. Patricia W
Only one of the 4 White Crested Black Polands is laying, but the others are very interested as is Phillip. This year she has chosen to lay in the eglu as opposed to the cube. ( They free range so choose where to go) I looked out of the window and saw the three other girl standing in the eglu run, gossiping together, whilst Phillip had gone into the eglu with Teddie and waited with her till she had finished! Very sweet! Tricia
Plum
I have a midwife hen. ....Hufflepuff....always noseying and interfering. and me Motmot is always doing the same and makes a right old din as soon as they go up and start arranging the nest box. And if they start purring or cooing she's even worse. Jealousy is a terrible thing she only lays a few times a week In answer to your question - I have no idea but I do tell her to shut up

Porkypie
My Nursie hen did this throughout last summer and as the other two layed earlier and earlier her shouting did too I started to wake early in fear of her noise. She's settled down since September and I'm hoping it's a permanent change I hope your hen grows out of it

Very sweet! Tricia I love to see them do that. It's well worth standing around with a cup of tea to see a cockerel escort his lady to lay.
