Gaping

Recommended Posts

Got home from work to find my speckledy stood in the run stretching her neck and gaping.

I have given her some live yoghurt a dose of avian antibiotic and some critical care formula (avian) she drank everything down but her throat feels 'rattly' shes gone back to roost with her mates now. Any more ideas or has anyone else come across this before? Her crop is empty and she is swallowing.

If it is gapeworm then the treatment is a double dose of Flubenvet for 7 days during which time you are not recommended to eat the eggs.

Gamebird I read that & believed that too, but darned if i can find it on the data sheet.

I rand them, and was tld not to use double dose, however to do it for double the time as IF they have Gape they oft are not eating enough to get the dose??????????????

well aware to that the pharm experts advisors don't all sing from the same sheet and offer dif advice.

would like to hear what other think :?

What a brilliant forum this is - another thing just learnt about gaping. My OH just mentioned this morning about Alice gaping but it could well be that she was re-arranging the food in her crop becuase she does tend to feed her face.

With regards to putting flubenvet in grapes - do you do a dose this way instead of putting it in their food for a week and if yes, how much do you put in and how often ?

Many thanks as always

Liz

The administering of the double dose shouldn't be given without the say so of a vet, and the diagnosis established. An egg withdrawal period may apply.
