sugarmouse
Hi, I have been patiently waiting for 7 silkie eggs to hatch today only to discover that the first one out is in fact a Transyllvanian naked neck instead. It is still cute though but im hoping the next one to come out will be my long awaited silkie
Daphne
OMG - do you like TNNs! For some reason getting that particular mix-up in a batch of bought in eggs would never occur to me; you must have had a real shock/nice surprise
WitchHazel
One of my first chooks was a TNN, she was gorgeous. I still miss her.
Lewis
They're the cutest chicks! Am planning on sneaking a couple of TNN eggs in when I hatch in a few weeks
Cooks
that would have scared the life out of me, I am not a lover of those... *shudders*
WitchHazel
that would have scared the life out of me, I am not a lover of those... *shudders* When I first saw them, at Wernlas, I didn't like them at all. However, I got to thinking about how unusual they were, and I read up a bit about them, disocvered they are renowned for being friendly little birds, and I saw them differently after that. When I got my little girl she was 14 weeks old and I thought she was just...stunning. And so unusual. I'd definitely have another TNN again in the future. You just have to start by thinking how unusual they are, rather than thinking how horrible.
Cooks
I will try but seriously they are not on my wish list..
Redwing
Brilliant, after seeing those at a few shows I must admit I really like them I hatched a large fowl gold laced Orpington from a 'Silkie' egg last year we called her Chris Moyles as she was so much bigger than the rest
sugarmouse
Well i knew the person i bought the eggs from also kept TNNs so as soon as i saw it hatch i recognised it and was angry but then as soon as it flopped down with exhaustion i fell in love I too have been reading about them and they sound cracking little/large birds. I am a great believer in fate so i think i have them for a reason.
Cooks
thats very right and who can not love a little tired out chickie
WitchHazel
What colour is she? Mine was black, but I think when I get another one I'll go for a blue one. That way I get the lovely breed, but I won't always think of Scarlett when I look at the new one.
sugarmouse
I now have 2 of them and finally 1 silkie and all are black or dark mottled brown colour anyway at the moment. They have all become such good friends and are huddled up together, soooo cute
Cooks
I am really pleased you have a silkie
TAJ
That's good 7 TNN would have been too much of a shock! My lot are hatching and it is a real mixture of eggs - I was only thinking today I am putting all my trust in them being correctly named - now you give me reasons for my doubts! sugarmouse
Oh i'm sorry to give you doubts, i contacted the seller and he reckoned that his kids had swapped the eggs around before he posted them so im sure it doesnt happen often. Not impressed though with him.
Valkyrie
Wow! That was sure some surprise. Not my favourite either, but I think they have to be loved because they are so baldy. Reminds me of Bedk"Ooops, word censored!"s and Broomsticks with the vultures. Poor excuse from the seller though. But they are rare aren't they? laurmurf
you are sooooo lucky! I yearn for another naked neck!
sugarmouse
You know i am lucky because despite the surprise they have captured my heart especially the last born this morning who has a cute white pom pom bum After much tooing and froing of emails i managed to get him to refund me. It may have been the pictures i sent him which swung it, dont think he believed me before then. So its all good. What was your naked neck like Laurie? TAJ
so was the final count 2 TNN & 1 silkie? Are you going to hatch some more or are you happy with what you now have? Tracy
sugarmouse
final count was 3 naked necks and 1 silkie and here is a pic my hubby took of all 4 of them
WitchHazel
Oh they are just so gorgeous, especially love the first piccy (s/he looks like a teeny version of my girl). I don't think you can sex them until they are about 14 weeks (Wernlas had only one available when I ordered one, and I had to wait until then for them to be sure she was a girl). I hope they turn out to be Girls. Are they bantam versions or full size?
Valkyrie
Oh what a cuties. I can see why you are liking them now. That 3rd piccie is adorable with it's little tufty bit. Reminds me of a lapwing head.
sugarmouse
Im not sure what size they will be, is there anything to tell by? They are quite tall now when they stretch up although the silkie seems bigger than them and the silkie is supposed to be a bantam.
