riven
Asked this question by a friend but I don't know the answer. She has 3 hens and is taking on 4 more. So she is building a WIR for the new large flock. Given neither flock would have called the run 'home' can she put them all in at the same time? Redwing
no, the three that are friends would still have a pecking order even in a new home A partition in the run would do the trick for intros though
beulah59
Possibly ... if they are all introduced together to a new territory, it will be easier ... but be prepared to take action if tensions flare up!
Sandychick
I wouldn't risk it. I'm building a WIR next week + 2 new chickens. Will be keeping them seperate probably for about a month. I don't think mine will be fooled by the new run - it's still in their garden! I think it's much less stressfull for the chickens and myself this way! tom123
I'm going to disagree I have done this many times and each and every time they have pecked each other a little and that was it. I would, as others have said, put them all together and intervene if necessary.
mdshamilton
So, how do you recommend I intervene? I have 2 Gingernuts (3yr olds) who are pecking my 3 new birds (a columbine, a sussex and a blackrock), only 1 of which is now egging, the others will begin laying in the next month as they mature. The new birds hide in the Eglu Cube whilst the Gingernuts chase them back into the Cube if they dare to venture out for food and water.... should I sharpen my axe? You really need some seperate accomodation for the new girls. If this is not possible can you split the run in some way?
