Lesley
I can't remember now who posted about the Gencon so I've started another thread...... It is brilliant!!! We've had so many problems with Jazz pulling and we've tried all the other head collars - we're lucky in that our local petstore let us try them on her and offer help.........everything we tried Jazz would get off in seconds! The poor assistant would fit it and while she stood up to tell us how good they were Jazz just pawed it off As soon as we tried the Gencon she was different. We went for the soft one in the hope that it would help, the one which has a clip on the end to clip onto the collar or harness. It is so easy to put on.....no fiddling (whilst your dog runs in the opposite direction ) Jazz has a very narrow muzzle and the Gencon is the only head collar to stay on - if she did manage to paw it off then it goes into a sliplead and she would still be safe. I can now walk with her without her pulling me off my feet. The only bugbear was that the lady who sells them doesn't sell online - you have to print off the order form and send a cheque. It didn't take long but I'm so used to instant shopping I notice that some online shopps have started stocking them but the colour choice is limited at the moment. I have asked the online petstore we use if she will look at stocking them. We have bought one for Tali as well but haven't had to use it as she is quite good on the lead.......unlike Jazz who never took any notice if you stopped or turned to walk in another direction The times I've stood, and stood, and stood.........and Jazz has never looked back to see why we weren't moving on

Rhapsody
I use one for Zeus, it came with him when we got him from Battersea with much recommendation, he hardly ever goes on the lead, being a free-range farm dawg but I'm jolly grateful for it when he goes to the vet (you can hear the reception staff bracing for impact as we come tumbling in through the door) it always astounds me that such a small gadget can control such a big boy. Bless your pooch for trying before you buy and saving you money on the other types though!
Chook n Boo Mum
I'm sure I've seen mention of these on here before Lesley, thank you for bring it back to the fore . As you know I have 3 Labramonsters, two of whom are in competition with an express train despite any encouragement/bribery etc from me, the third is relatively content to walk to heel. Up until now I've been able to take them to walking places where the leads are not often necessary, but with the loss of the big car I now have to walk them to walking areas...no easy task along roads with no pavements as I'm sure you can imagine The only lead I've found which has reined them in is, to my mine, a bit rough, and the ropes ride up too close to their eyes..................do these really stay further down their muzzle & not ride up? If so I shall be filling in the order form which is sitting on the printer as I type & ordering at least 2. Presumably if you get the head collar with separate lead (of which we have many ) you release the lead for a romp, then reattach the lead to go home............ I know what you mean about the walk in opposite direction & wait for the dog to join you.........eventually Thanks for your help Sha x
The Dogmother
glad to hear it Lesley. On the strength of your recommendation a few weeks ago, I mentioned it to a friend whose border collie pulls him off his feet; he is delighted too. Ruby is mostly good on the lead unless she spots a playmate, so it could yet be a possibility for her!

Yes, it really doesn't ride up into the eyes! - Jazz is very fussy about that. I agree that you would just unclip the lead from the headcollar. I phoned and spoke to the lady who makes them, she's very helpful if you have any queries.
Snowy
We inherited one of these with Ruby. It is good, but it doesn't work that well for her She lies on the floor and grips it with her paws and slides her nose out We have to put it on just as we are about to exit the door so she doesn't have time to drop to the floor (although if you let the lead get too long she will still throw herself to the floor and have a go). Then she leans into it and grunts and gargles her way to the field because she can't open her little gob wide enough to pant properly And the slip loop sits behind her ears so (because she has lovely long spaniel ears) she gets a bit knotted mat of fur behind her ear. And it can be fiddly to put on if they don't sit still - Ruby darts off as soon as it's over her nose and before we've got it over her head. I've learnt the technique of holding both loops open and together and lassooing them both into place at the same time. Having said all that, it is probably the best of the bunch, and it does make her pulling a little more manageable
Lesley
- Oh dear!! Shouldn't laugh really. I spent a week getting Jazz used to it before we went out for the first time., just a minute every night. I had high value treats and just 'put it on, treat, took it off' about three times then put it away and gave her a toy. On the fifth day I walked across the room with it and then took it off straight away. I wasn't holding out much hope when I first took her outside with it but she was fine!
