Raina
My mum Bought me 6 eggs yesterday from eBay! I did put some Silkie X CL eggs on there but they ended early with a BIN So i looked at the one's my mum bought and from the description i think they are just CL eggs? So we'll just have to wait and see If these don't end up hatching i will have to go to Penkridge Market (Poultry auctions every Wednesday & Saturday) and see if they have any TNN and/or Silkie chicks Edited April 10, 2010 by Guest

Raina
Thanks I'm not sure about the local poultry markets as my cousin told me about it,He goes up there every week, a couple of weeks ago he came back with a mix of 15, 1 day old chicks,he got 1 little Serama cockerel You could always try searching poultry markets then your location? Raina
Well the lovely eggs have arrived but now i have a question! When & how do i clean them (Some have poo on) I have some chicktec hatchery sanitiser that says it can be used on both incubators & eggs Picture of the eggs They look blue on the picture but all 6 are green
Madchook
I didn't clean my eggs.... Are they going to die?
Lewis
They don't look too dirty Raina - should be fine Its best not to clean eggs if you can help it, it removes the outer protective layer (can't remember the name?) and can let bacteria in. Raina
I put the eggs in the incubator less than an hour ago, i didn't end up cleaning them after Lewis said not to On the description it said they are bantams? so i'm going to stop turning them on day 15 (28/03/2010) This time round i think i'm going to enjoy it as i won't be turning them by hand
Redwing
See what the others say Raina but I dont find there is any difference between bantams and LF eggs in developement time personally I wouldnt stop turning mine at day 15 The earliest I have had a bantam hatch is day 20 but nearly all have been day 21 give or take a few
Madchook
Maybe you should get your mum to email the seller? Are there cream legbar bantams?
Raina
I messaged them on my eBay account and they said they are 100% sure they are Silkie X Legbars so i'll just have to wait and see,It's not all bad news if they end up CL as i know a couple of people who'll take them off me
Raina
Does anyone know what i can use to candle the eggs with? The day i got them i tried to candle with a torch to look for any cracks but the shells are so dark i couldn't see through them I was going to candle them on day 12 (Today is day 3)
Madchook
You might not have much luck candling, my araucana egg was inpenetrable by even my high lume candler (that could get through a dark maran). I only knew it was alive when I saw movement at the edge of the airsac. You could try an led torch and a loo roll though and just go by air sac size... Raina
Right I've been Very Naughty and candled them 4 days early (Today is day 6,But couldn't resist as it was very dark in my bedroom and i was filling up the water tray ) and 5/6 are definitely fertile,Not sure about 1 of them as the egg was just way too dark to tell Now i know how many are fertile, I'm not going to bother candling them till day 17 and take out any dead one's
