Should I get a Cube and sell an Eglu?

Recommended Posts

I have a dilemma, I have 2 eglus, Purple and Pink, I am building a WIR and the eglus will have to go one on the floor and one on a table above the other one to give maximum space, a cube would take up less space in it, and Chickens would be able to go under the cube. I could keep one eglu for any new arrivals and sell one of the eglus. Has anyone else swopped their eglu's for a cube?

Occasionally we do get 5 in one and 1 in the other usually Emma as no one wants to sleep with her. We have to move them about which is a bit of a pain, so if they are in the WIR I can see the same thing happening!

At the moment they are in their runs in the day and only free range when we are at home, as Emma keeps escaping and we also had a near fox attack a couple of months ago, OH spotted a fox out of the bedroom window in the field at the back, I went upstairs to have a look and saw it running past our next door but one neighbours fence towards our garden. I sounded the alarm and the OH and our 2 dogs ran into the garden which disturbed it and it reluctantly sauntered away.

I have emailed the OH but the lack of responce indicates a no, but can talk him around when I have ordered one.

Also if I do get one, what colour do I get?

well I have a cube attached to the outside of the WIR so gaining more space inside, I sold my original Eglu to fund buying it and have never regretted changing to the cube. :)

I did buy an additional eglu when I saw one cheap as its handy to have one for emergencies and intro's, but if you plan to keep one of yours you wont have that problem. :)

(cube green) is the colour ;)

I loved having 2 eglus, but the whole reason we got the cube is at roosting time all 5 birds would pile in the one eglu leaving the other one redundant

I still have my beloved (orange eglu) and could never part with it and it is used for introductions and hen sitting. For me the cube serves its purpose with being practical but bear in mind it's a heavy piece of kit!

Most definitely...I only had an eglu now I have an (pink eglu) and a (cube purple)

Finally moved all my chooks into the wir this week and they are all sleeping in the cube, so this weekend my big job is to clean the eglus return one to Poachedegg (thank you so much for loan) and put the other one away!

Thanks for all your advice. OH thought it was a really good idea so I have ordered an orange Cube!!! It will brighten up the area it is going in and will go with the blue I have painted the WIR. It is due to be delivered on Friday, how exciting! I will have to power hose the eglus down and I think I will sell the Pink one.

(cube orange):D:D:D

what, no blue cube anymore??? mine is fab!! if anyone is thinking about moving from 1 or more eglus to a cube, I wholeheartedly recommend it. I find cleaning 1 cube much easier than 2 eglus; however, we have just got the rablu conversion kit for 2 new bunnies which will use up one 'spare' eglu; and I'm keeping the other for introductions. 18 months ago I would have sold both eglus, however now I'm glad I didnt manage to!
