tom123 Posted March 30, 2010 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Firstly congrats on the chicks to be Is she in a separate house on her own away from the rest of the flock? If not she needs to be moved as the other hens and the cockerel with kill the chicks. Her house shouldn't need cleaning out as she will not poo on the eggs. She will (you may have to make her) get off every day for 15-20 mins to eat, drink and poo and then will get back on the nest. hazard Posted March 30, 2010 Author Share Posted March 30, 2010 she does come out first thing in the morning for a drink some pellets strtch her legs then she goes back in until tea time then she repeats the morning activites i guess i will have to go out and clean the other house and make it into the maternity wing. will it upset her to move her and the eggs to the other house. I would make sure she is in as near as possible the same position, and facing the same way so she is not too disorientated. You are lucky that she comes off twice a day, mine have to be forced out to get excersise and poo. I do put food and water right in front of them though. Good luck grandma. tom123 Posted March 30, 2010 Share Posted March 30, 2010 That's good that she is coming off twice daily If you move her over when it is dark along with the eggs and make the nest in the new house nice and cosy. Pop the eggs in the nest and then place her on top. Shut the coop door and leave it shut until lunchtime the next day so she stays broody. I used to be quite scared of mine when they were broody, but now I can pick them up to put them out to poo. I sit quietly and talk to them and stroke their heads, its lovely. They still raise their tail feathers but after a moment or two they relax and enjoy it. Glad everything is going well. Not long before you can post pictures.
