Emma&lewie
Hi, Im concerned about a couple of my girls they have lost feathers on there undercaridge. one is totaly bald and its now looking quite red, and the other has got a small bald patch. i noticed it end of late autum begining of winter and thought it was due to anual moulting. (it wasnt red then just a bald patch) we also have moved house in febuary so wondered if it was the stress of moving that may also not help with feather re-growth, (our other chook has beautiful new feathers after her moult) I regualy worm and de louse them ( and have seen no sign of any lice or worms) i did wonder wether it could be one off them attacking the others? not quite sure what to do, are there any creams or lotions we can try? many thanks Emma
Egluntyne
I think you have inadvertantly supplied the answer. 2 pecked hens and one sporting beautiful plumage = a feather pecker. I would try spraying the pecked girls with anti peck spray first off to see if that cures it.
Sky
I have had a similar problem with mine, it started off with one bare bum and a patch on the back and now all four are the same. I also decided that it was a feather pecking problem and have used the anti pecking spray twice. None of the girls have got any worse but they still all look pretty scabby and I still have my lovely Bluebelle with a very bare bum but not as red as before. My question is, provided the habit has been stopped how long should it take for regrowth of feathers and should I continue to use the anti peck spray which has got stockholm tar in it and is turning my chickens a lovely shade of brown!!! We are in the process of constructing a new walk in run and house for them but they don't seem to appreciate the amount of work being done for them
Porkypie
My question is, provided the habit has been stopped how long should it take for regrowth of feathers and should I continue to use the anti peck spray which has got stockholm tar in it and is turning my chickens a lovely shade of brown!!! I had to resort to a BB on my persistent feather pecker as anti-peck spray alone didn't work fo me. Once BB fitted, a full set of lovely quills have appeared on the plucked hen's leg after a week. Then maybe another two weeks after until they fully open. Not sure about how long to spray for. I'm going to keep up with that until the BB falls off (? a few months or so) and hope by then the habbit is broken. I over-sprayed mine in desperation and their feathers look awful
Snowy
I spent ages trying to resolve feather pecking by three new hens I'd introduced. Bumper bits, ukadex etc. It was hard to tell whether or not it was working until they moulted this winter. They now all have beautiful bloomers again, so it took nearly a year
