Well the walk in run is finished but am now trying to design inside for the girls.

Am really feeling so guilty about keeping them in it although it is 18ft x 6ft so lots of room but it was the condition of it being built to save the garden and stop the dog eating you know what and then vomiting it everywhere

 

I have got a large tyre to fill for dustbathing and will place it on the slabs with Hemcore on the floor but do people with tyres put something in the bottom to stop it falling out underneath or so that you can move it when you clean up or am I just being over the top now

My bantams have a cube for dustbathing....it is just straight on the ground and filled with compost/sand/diatom.

 

They flick a lot of the contents out into the rest of the run anyways so I don`t worry too much about it

I use tyres for dustbaths and my chucks love them. They dustbathe in them and perch around them. I just put them straight on the ground and fill with dry soil, sand and diatom. By the time cleaning time comes round theres hardly any of the contents left in there anyway, so i wouldnt worry about it

A few of my lot have tyres too and they love them, they dustbathe and then sit round on them like CW's chooks do

I put a dustbath tyre in my newly completed WIR and my girls were so scared of it they wouldn't go within 6 feet of it .

Mine were like that at first but I threw some corn into it and they soon got over their fears. They love it now.

I like the idea of using a tyre - the sand used - is that the stuff from the builders yard or is it children's play sand?

 

I had wondered about using a covered cat litter box as this would keep it dry as I can't fit a dust bath in the covered bit of their run. Is that a bit OTT?

They went into the brand new WIR this after noon and we filled up the tyre with soil and they were straight in !!!!
