Saff
One of my hens, Gwen, has turned into a very agressive girl towards us. She was the one we hatched and always used to be very friendly, sensible and calm and more gentle than the others. Over the last few weeks, she has become very confrontational, chasing after us, pecking our feet, jumping at our legs and pecking them, grabbing the bottoms of our jeans and tugging, kicking, flappling - the lot. She will also not back down - if you go to shoo her away or pick her up she really stands her ground and will have a go. She is not aggressive with the other two hens; they peck each other from time to time, but she is not the worst of them. In fact, a few months ago, she was badly attacked by Elsie so much so that one whole side of her was pecked to a mass of open bloody wounds. We put one of those chicken coat/bibs on her and that seemed to stop it eventually. But now our once chearful and placid hen has turned into a fury. Any thoughts welcome as we'd like her back to normal! our three silver dorkings live in a cube with a 3 meter run, which we let them out of in the evenings and weekends to roam within a fairly large pen. They are a year old and started laying at the end of Feb.
Plum
Sounds like she's a bit hormonal. Guess you need to reverse the dominance thing and hold her down for a good while, carry her around etc., may be as well to wear gloves. Women!
Saff
Thanks - hormonal is a good thought. It does coincide with her laying regularly. We'll try the dominance thing!
