LuckyChickenLover-
Okay, so I got on to the G&T list at school, and now my parents are saying that I can have anything I want as a reward .(... hmmm.... a mansion? a ferrari? £1,000,000? ) My mum hinted that we might get another hen, probably an ex-bat. Although this would be lovely, I can think of quite a few problems that might arise if we got another hen. We currently have two, month old chicks, who are obviously not old enough to go outside permantly just yet. Seeing as my mum mentioned geting a 'hen' and not 'henS' I think that the EB would get lonely on her own before the chicks are old enough to go outside. I also wondered if , when the chicks finally go outside, they would attack the new hen. My two chicks have known each other since the day they hatched, and from what I heard, chickens don't take kindly to intruders. I do have enough room to house a new hen ( red eglu go) and I know that a Go is supposed to house up to four chooks, but seeing as I can't let my hens FR because of all the cats and foxes, I worry that it might be a bit of a squash in the Eglu, especially at night, when they'd all be locked in the nesting box. I would love to have an ex-bat, but to be honest if I can't house her properly then I'd feel really bad. Bats have suffered enough, the least they deserve is a chance to have a lot of room to walk around in. Thanks ~ Lucky Chicken Lover
Egluntyne
Not a good idea I'm afraid. Ex batts can be aggressive as they are used to having to fight for every mrosel of food. Usually rescue centres won't allow you to rescue just the one anyway. All that aside, it is a not a good idea at all to put an adult hen in with chicks. The likely outcome is that the chicks will be killed. Have a look at **this article**.
