It suddenly won't open! Using windows 7, Firefox was working fine this morning, I shut it down, went to work and now it won't open again. No response at all from clicking on the desktop shortcuts, if I try to open it from an email link I get a pop up saying: "There was a problem sending the command to the programme" Am having to use IE8 and I really don't like it anymore

Something similar happened to me a while ago! I think I uninstalled it then downloaded it again using IE. Worked fine after that.

 

I use Google Chrome now and really like it - there are some nice touches for using tabs etc.

Another Chrome fan here.

 

I used Firefox for ages with no probs and really liked it, then all of a sudden it went wonky. Something to do with the add ons. It was OK if I fished about for the safe version, but I couldn't be bothered with that.

OK, new problem I can't uninstall it or reinstall it as it keeps saying "Please close Firefox before you can proceed" Trouble is, it's not open. Or at least it's not open anywhere I can see it How do I force something to close?

It kept doing that to me too........had to restart the computer each time to clear it.

 

I changed to Chrome too,and am impressed so far.Its certainly faster and more stable.

Right, I managed to close it using Task Manager (thanks Cookie for that tip) and have reinstalled it. It's now working fine, but next time it misbehaves its curtains! Thanks for the advice everyone.

I had problems for about a month, after they did a new upgrade; the new version just wouldn't work properly, primarily with Hotmail. I upgraded to Google Chrome and am very happy with it. especially as it automatically imports all your bookmarks and easy access tabs. I can set it up to clear my history on closing too.

Only quibble I have with Chrome is that its really long winded to add a bookmark,unless there is a quick & easy way that I haven't discovered!

There is! There is a star icon on the left of the address bar, click it to add a bookmark

I do that Fred, but I find the bookmarks are nowhere to be seen. Not sure what I am doing wrong there So I click the star, and then add it to a new folder, just to be sure.

I like the bookmark synching facility - it means that I can synchronise my bookmarks and have the same ones on all my pooters

Cinnamon, do you have the "bookmarks bar" showing? I love it - I have Yahoo/Omlet/Farmville/FB/Scrabble all in a row just a click away and "other bookmarks" at the far right.

 

Click the spanner & "always show bookmarks bar" (or CTRL B).

Thank you Fred Almost caused a mischief though as I accidently deleted one of my bookmark folders during a spring clean Luckily looked up how to retrieve it, and it worked *phew*
