Help ! I recently hatched 7 chicks from some eggs in my incubator (some bought, some my own). After about 2 weeks I noticed one of the bought chicks was unsteady on her feet, although still eating and drinking. The next day it was dead. I have noticed other chicks appear unsteady and they are not very active, although they are all still eating and drinking. They do not appear to have any difficulty breathing, no discharges around the eyes or nostrils (some have runny droppings, some not). Their feathers do appear a little ruffled (I think). It is 5 days since the first chick died and no more have actually died since. I have not had any disease in my flock before. Any ideas anyone, as I am now thinking it may be best just to cull all the chicks.

Thanks

Nick

It's almost certainly coccidiosis. Have you been feeding medicated chick crumb?

Some use Coxoid to treat coccidiosis but it isn't licensed for poultry.

Your vet may prescibe Baycox.

Whatever, you need to act very quickly or you will lose the rest. :(

I would have said exactly this, it will go through them very very quickly if not treated promptly

Hopefully you've caught it early enough
