Arggggh! FAIL!

Recommended Posts

Excuse me while I rant.

After what seems like the longest battle against the dreaded feather pulling in history, I ended up seperating my evil little culprit three and a half weeks ago.

The remaining three have been happy as can be, have all started sprouting new feathers, and have been looking a lot healthier.

The evil one has been sectioned off in the existing WIR, where she can see the others. Over the last week I've been FRing them together, and they've slept together a couple of times before being seperated again in the morning, until FR time. Today I removed the divide while they were out, and when the rain came I shut them back in. I sat in the rain and watched from a distance, and all was fine. Went inside to cook the dinner, went to check nearly an hour later, and all the new feather growth from two of the other three is completely gone. Tried again with the bumper bit, but she's got a bit of strange stubby beak, so it won't stay between he beak properly, as the top half is too short, it stays in her nostrils, but it just ends up flapping about on top.

So, now the divider is back in place. Not sure what else to do....should it take this long if they were living together for nearly a year before all this happended? Plenty of space, plenty to do, seperate feed stations etc.

Maybe rehoming is the only option :(

Rant over.

She is a problem hen I had one that is why I only have 2 hens at the moment.

Unfortuantly after 3 weeks of trying I rehomed her and they had lived together for a year aswell.

The people rang me up the other week just saying she is perfectly fine and no problems and she is their best breeding bird they have ever had. She produced amazing chicks the prettiest they have seen.

Anyway what I am saying is find someone with a cock of her species and ask them to take her all they need is some special male company to keep them calm.

I have a Light Sussex to whom I gave a home about a year ago, because she was feather pulling and beating her companions up in her former home. She was absolutely fine for about 6 months, but has transmogrified into the most evil caniballistic bully again. She has stripped poor Claudia practically naked and has also had a go at a couple of the other hens. I caught her in the act and so she is now in solitary, and will remain there.

The sad thing is, when she is on her own, with me, she is lovely.

Claudia is beginning to sprout the odd little feather here and there and is much happier.

My feather pecker is back in solitary again. She stripped one of my new girls botty feathers in a day and has also pulled out 99% of my Vorwerks neck feathers :( DH made me try them together again and I knew I shouldn't have listened to him. I've only got half of my girls who look presentable.
