jess
I just learned to ride but I try to ride ont he road as much as possible, however, as long as people slow down or get off to pass pedestrians i dont see why it is a problem after all everyones taxes are paying for the road
Egluntyne
Bit of an update on this topic....was very pleased to see that a scheme called Bikeability is to be introduced. Its a bit like the Cycling proficiency Test with k"Ooops, word censored!"s on! Cyclists are actually taken out with instructors into real traffic, and not just onto the school playground. There was a piece on the news about it, and there were favourable comments from all concerned. A step in the right direction. An aside...I followed a cyclist (dressed in all the gear ) through Sheffield today. I couldn't get my breath at his behaviour! Whilst I was going the same way as him he went through seven red lights, mounted the pavement nine times to avoid stationary traffic, bobbed and weaved dangerously in between slow moving traffic, and went over 2 roundabouts in such a manner that he caused the traffic whose right of way it was to slam on their brakes.....I hope he was carrying a donor card. He was the sort of arrogant twerp that gives all the other cyclists a bad name....and when he causes an accident he will emerge unscathed...and blame the motorist. Is it a ridiculous idea to suggest licences and number plates for cyclists too?
Guest
I heard about this on our local news last night and have just emailed our local council to provide some details. They only do a cycling proficiency test at my childrens school at the moment but are planning to do a Bikeability scheme in the summer. The only problem is it is going to be held too far away to travel on our bikes to get to it I suppose it is a very new scheme and will be rolled out to a wider area dependant on the success
