cluckingmad
OK, hands up eveyrone who feels totally unappreciated at work.... So angry I just had to vent some steam - I work at a uni in the UK and its exam paper writing time. Now, this eayr thigns are different at my place in that all the papers needed werre produced months ago. Or so I thought. Had an email last wednesday asking for the papers for this week, except when I checked the person who had reported this date had gotten it wrong - the exam was on the Monday. So, ignoring the thumping dose of lurgy I've managed to come down with I went in on Friday at 6.30am to get the paper written as quickly as possible, using questions already pre-ok'ed with the senior management team. The problem? Mainly that none of them could organise a teddy bears picnic, they STILL complain the questions aren't good enough (despite the fact THEY'VE written half of them), make Yours Truely and others feel that we're somehow failing to do our jobs properly when THEY lost the original paper in the first place, and to cap it all off, I spent most of today chasing one of the afore-mentioned persons to try and get some comments on the paper so it can be altered if necessary and sent to the exams office before end of play today. Oh yes, and I'm not even supposed to be in work today due to lurgy. Please, someone tell me that I'm not just being very unreasonable here?! Is it really too much to ask that other people do they're jobs properly rather thahn constantly blaming the rest of us when we can't sort out the mess they've created quickly enough?? I did see a fabulous notice on a friends desk the other day, might ask where she got it...."a lack of time management on your part does not consitute a crisis on mine". If only.... Snowy
Sounds fairly typical of the systems that have been put in place to 'manage' education for us Rant away - hope you feel better soon!
Patricia W
Is your lurgy bad enough to be signed off? Because if it is, and you are in work, you aren't covered by the Uni Health and Safety rules - and should go home immediately!! How frustrating for you - hope you sort it out. Woodcat
Univercities are teeeeeeeeeerible for doing that sort of thing. My mother works in one and i have done on occasions and it's just atrocious. Where she works they once managed to lose the paperwork after an admissions day. This meant that they had no clue who the lecturers wanted to accept and who they didn't want to. The office concerned went into total panic and my mother (who was in a completly different deparment) ended up taking over and phoning all the academics one of whom was sitting on a beach in Spain and trying to get them to remember who they'd accepted and who they had not. You have sympathy and hugs from here. They are a bloomin nightmare. You are definitely not being unreasonable if they had not lost it you wouldn't be running round when you shouldn't be. Good luck getting it solved.
Ms Tilytinkle
"For those about to Rant .. we salute you!" Bless you & the lurgy . . hope you feel better soon. . . lets hope the 'others who couldn't arrange a peeee up in a brewery I mean teddys picnic party' don't catch it, as you do realise they'll be too ill to work & "you'll have to do all the work yourself " !!!!! AGAIN Meee thinks a few simple Uni rules should be installed into your mindset: 1) Detach, 2) Smile, 3) and Breathe 4) Do Ya Best 5) if your 'best' aint good enough .. think tough .. ' I SALUTE YOU ' (FINGER STYLE) . . .. . go home.. detach, smile and breathe . . drinkies optional ! Importantly its a fab way to remind others to pay attention . .do their best & collectively it usual works thats why its called TEAM EFFORT!!!! Consequences have a funny way of becoming a wonderful teacher to some MsTilythinksyoudeservebighugsbigbunchesofflowersbigboxofchocciesandmuchgratitude! cluckingmad
Mrs Tilytinkle, I have missed your posts!! Thanks all, much calmer/happeir now - tomorrow I get to go in to the Looney Bin for a staff meeting (the kind where attendance is not compulsory, but if you're still breathing you'd better be there), so shall gleefully pass the lurgy (officially now Man-Flu, according to my hubby, as he's coming down with it!) to all and sundry. Make me work while I'm off ill will they.... also means I have to drive past my favourite aquarium shop soooo may have to cheer self up with the purchase of new fishkies (new chooks another few weeks away )
