bluekarin
I have a flowering cherry tree I got free from Palo Alto wine. I wanted a hawthorn really, but I guess everyone wanted one of them. I don't have a very big garden. The back already has a larger fruiting cherry tree in it and a small eucalyptus in it and the front has a rather large silver birch (which is only 7 years old!) I was thinking of planting it in the ground but pruning, hacking etc to make it go shrub like and not tall tree like. The question is, would it work or would it kill/ruin the tree? Ta very muchos
sjp
it'll depend on the rootstock partly. I've got a fuiting cherry that I keep as a fairly small tree but it's hard work as I only have to miss pruning it fully one season and it gets out of hand the next spring cherries have to be pruned in the late summer only need a few rained off weekends when you're at work in the week and thats the pruning out of the window till next year
