Is it safe to give my girls one of those balls of bird seed that you see in shops for wild birds. They look so appetising (from a birdie point of view) but I won't get one unless I am sure they will be okay.

 

Does anyone know of any reason I shouldn't give them one ?

I believe these are made with fat which is not good for chooks, but I think you can get some made with honey which are ok

Yes I think you are right they are made with fat, I have not seen the ones made with honey perhaps coz I wasn't looking.

I think all of the treats made for parrots/cage birds have honey instead of fat.

Why not get them a pecka block, they love those.

But make sure the block is good quality or it will crumble and fall apart.

Those pecka blocks are hard as nails and take them ages to get through.
