ali-s
Can Carnation cuttings be planted straight into pots of compost? Do I need rooting powder (which I don't have)? They are sitting in a glass of water at the moment
Jaime
My mum got some carnations from my sister in Jersey last mothers day. When they finished flowering she broke them into sections and just put them in the garden. Quite a few have taken and become little plants - just waiting to see if the flowers are as gorgeous as the originals.

CannyCat
Thanks. I will stick them in some compost The cuttings are from a bunch of carnations from a friend I think (trying to remember my grandmother making cuttings...!) you just need to make sure there are no flowers or buds on the bit you stick in soil, or all the energy will go into flowering instead of making roots...
