So week 2 of chicken keeping and still keeping an eye on Maisie. Godd news however is that if she turns out to be a boy and isn't good with the children then we have managed to rehome her/him

If I don't have a boy in my chicklets (think I do though), I'd definitely have HIM off you. I will watch my chicklets carefully & make sure I do have a little cockerel. If not & yours is a boy - then there would be a forever home for him here. Watching my chicks & this thread carefully!

Hi i have a 12 week old and she looks nothing like that Doesnt have all that head gear or such a large straight tail i fear she might be a he! sorry not what you want to hear really! But i could be comletley wrong, It could well be a girl but not a true pekin! (fingers crossed)

Yes we have news on Maisie. She's most definitely a boy and has been making her presence known at 4.30 each morning! Bizarre thing is that even though we know she's a boy we all keep calling her maisie still

 

We're going to see how it goes. At the moment (s)he's not too noisy to put up with and is still friendly enough. fortunately one of my clients has kindly offered to take her off our hands if she gets grumpy with the boys (2 and 5).

 

We have however had a visit from a very large fox already. He was investigating the run one morning last week when I spotted him from the bedroom window. I ran out in my underwear waving my arms and making roaring sounds! Its a good job we dont have neighbours!!

 

I'm about to post some piccies trying to identify the other girls. I'm not convinced they are the breeds we've been told they are!

Oh dear. Next time i'd get it from a breeder that is ''true on breeds and sex'' if you know what i mean.

So sorry about the fox, foxes are terrible. I lost 2 girls in 2 days..

Hello there,

I'm totally understanding how you feel. Along with Jenny, we've had to return 2 out of our 3 sussex after lovingly bringing them on from 6 weeks! We were lucky the boys had great personalities & if your neighbours don't mind I'd highly recommend boys for their exuberant characters! Hope it turns out better for you, lovely chicken, I've never seen one before! Brightened up avery dull trip to London!

Well he doesn't wake us, he's not that loud I don't think. The neighbours have said he doesn't bother them either.
