Scoobs
Hello all I had 4 new girls just over a week ago. 3 had sniffles that have all gone now due to denuguard. The one that didn't have the sniffles and has looked the strongest and bully was in the coop today when I went to work and she was still there when I came home. She is out now but not eating or interested in anything just hunched up. They are all at the point to lay and we have had one egg (which I suspect is from heras her comb is by far the largest) but is this normal? I was wondering if I would do any harm if I gave her some nutri drops to help her on her way as I assume it is because she is about to start to lay? She isn't sniffling at all. If I did adminster them can I choke her by putting the drops in her beak or do chickens have different anatomy to us?! Any other ideas? Plum
She may be having trouble laying. Sometimes respiratory infections can cause inflamation in the laying bits so it may be worth looking out for discharge from vent or if she looks as though she is straining. Sorry to sound alarmist it is just what I have experienced with one of mine. May just be she's taking her time with first egg and it's making her feel a bit grot. It may just be worth listening to her breathing and checking her nostrils for discharge in case sniffles have turned into something more serious. Scoobs
I can't detect any snuffles, sneezes etc so hope it is just waiting to lay her egg or a softie. I would certainly put her as most healthy and robust of the group to now.
