tokenwelshman
My girls are getting into this free-ranging concept. Turned my back for a few minutes and found the supposedly-lame (although much improving) Amy practically on the lane running past the front of the house - their coop and run is at the exact opposite end of the garden. Anyway, the bizarre / gruesome thing was finding Martha (my brilliant little Black Rock) with what looked to be a clump of dark moss in her mouth. She was strutting up and down the garden, running around making a strange cooing noise, and repeatedly dropping and immediately picking up this clump of moss. Except I suddenly realised that moss doesn't normally have a tail hanging off one end, or (on closer inspection) litte feet. It was in fact a long-dead and fairly dessicated looking mouse or shrew, which Martha seemed very proud to have found. She seemed quite miffed when I took it off her and got rid of it. I know they'll eat anything but I dread to image what state this former rodent was in. Delightful!

JillJ01
I let our ladies out this afternoon and thanks to all the rain, the worms are ripe for the taking. Cue Amy finding a rather large specimen and being chased round the garden by . Cue Amy finding another, much bigger, worm a while later and then being chased by Rose When I turned to watch all I saw was one going round and round and round in circles, with the other on the outside flank. Oh it was so funny to see

Tutti Frutti
Way to go Martha  Where was Rose while all this excitement was going on? Glad Amy's getting better Wonder if she was running from the smell?

tokenwelshman
Way to go Martha  Where was Rose while all this excitement was going on? Looking at me suspiciously as she tends to do. It's fair to say she is the least cuddly of my chickens - hard to cuddle something which is running away from you making a row. Glad Amy's getting better Wonder if she was running from the smell? Amy certainly seems to be on the mend. Her comb is turning red and I caught her scratching at the ground the other day. Oh and I just had my first omlette from the girls' eggs - not sure why I didn't think of that option before, particularly given the time I spend reading this forum!
