Malkalv
My 3 girls usually are very good at bedtime. I let them free range every night after work until the sun goes down. Normally, they go right back to their run and put themselves to bed in their coop. However, the past few nights, they have not wanted to go to bed. I have tried bribing them with rasins and worms but I still have to end up catching them and putting them back into their run and then they finally go back into the coop. Their straw is changed every 2 days and their eglu gets scrubbed every other weekend. I do not think mites are the problem since we tend to keep their area very clean. It has been very hot for this area lately (99F during the day) but I did not have this problem last summer and it did get as hot as it is now. Does anyone have any ideas? veggiemad
Hi. my girls arent going to bed til gone 10 pm at the moment, I used to leave the door open- but since dolly has arrived, shes decided she'd prefer to be a cockerel and wakes our daughter up at 4am, so i've started shutting the door of the cube, however, some nights i've had to wait til 10.30pm to shut the door- no early nights with a good book, for me at th mo- although DH did offer to stay up last night, and locked them up for me!! Egluntyne
It is probably the hot weather. A few of mine roost in the perches I have in my walk in run at the moment, rather than in the cube as it has been very warm here. Might be worth going out, armed with a torch after dark to see if there are any mites about. You are more likely to see them then.
