Busybird
I am sitting here trying to get some work done with a noisy chook distracting me She wants out to play I have 4 young girls in my eglu - one has just started to lay, the other 3 I hope will start soon. We have had them since the middle of May. I also have 9 older girls in my cube. I let the older ones out to free range from about 10am to 3pm. I then put them back in their run and let the younger ones out until about 6pm. I planned to keep them apart like this until they were all laying. However, this noise is driving me mad! Do you think that I am asking for trouble if I just let such young (and still very flighty) birds out to mix with my established flock? They free range in a reasonably sized garden but I can't stay out with them for long as I should be working
midori
I have no idea really, but we initially got three 13 week old pullets and then two year old hens a couple of days later. I had been told they would all be fine together, and didn't realise the potential for problems. They were fine, but mine seem amiable birds anyway, as intorduced two newbies at the weekend with no problems at all. Not much help, am I?! TAJ
What age are the youngsters? Mine are now 17 weeks old and I freerange older cube girls and the younger eglu chickens separately and together, but I do keep a close eye when they are all out - they can be fine for a few hours together and then suddenly war breaks out - usually when both sets get totally mixed up together. My oldies mainly have bumper bits anyway as well. Tracy
