DAB Digital Radio

Recommended Posts

I would like a digital radio but have no idea which one to get. Obviously price is my main issue and I would not be prepared to pay over £50. I have no clue as to which brands are better, whether I will need preset buttons or how to change the channel on them, so am not sure what I should be buying.

I hardly listen to the radio as twiddling with a dial means once you've found a certain station you tend to stick with it for fear of never finding it again, and I sure I'm missing out on some great radio programmes :?

Does anyone have any recommendations for DAB digital radios and which brands are best?

I have a Pure Evoke, which I'm quite happy with, but I just keep it tuned to the one station . My mother has a cheapie DAB ( no idea what brand ) that can also be tuned to the FM and AM stations, handy if you want to listen to local radio - if our schools are closed due to bad weather , I have to put the stereo radio on as I can't get the station on DAB, but her reception for DAB is not as good as mine.

Pures are really ggod - we have 3.

One is my bedside radio/alarm clock in a very nice beech wood, & 2 we won on Absolute Radio & are in the kitchen & garage.

All work really well & I would totally recommend one.

It depends what you want from it.If it needs to wake you in the morning, then you will need one with an alarm function. You can also get them as docks to charge your ipod,& that can be used as your alarm.

Go to the John Lewis site - there is a handy thing where you can check the features you need & it lists the ones that have those features.

I really fancy one of the gorgeous flowery ones ...................

From past experience Claire, I'd make sure that you keep the receipt in case it needs to go back; after doing some research, it seems that the internal frequency settings in some units can be rubbish.

Harking back to a thread i started some time ago; I was looking for a DAB/FM radio with CD and ipod dock capabilities too. I plumped for a Panasonic one which took my fancy, but it couldn't receive either DAB or FM on it... I live in a town centre and have good reception to both on other units in the house. After lots of digging - read all the online reviews very carefully) I found that others had had the same problems. I sent back 2 units (having tested them with various aerials at Maplins) before getting a refund and eventually buying a Roberts from a local outlet - I am delighted with it, the sound quality is superb and it looks good too.

Thanks for that Clare, all interesting info gratefully received :D

I've now found out that there is something called DAB+, which is like an international standard of DAB, which a lot of digital radios won't work on, so I have to look for DAB+ ready or radios which are upgradable. As I intend to have a radio for a fair few years, it's something else to consider

I had a look in the local Currys this morning and they had a mini PURE silver for £35. It's a nice radio but they didn't have any in stock. I'll take a bit of time to do some research.

I was going to ask about this too :D I am looking for a DAB radio to go in my kitchen with a cd player in it as well. Anyone know if there are such things? My current radio cd combo is ok, but the player decides if I am allowed to listen to particular songs on the cd. It doesn't usually let me listen to my faves :twisted:

Sarah - did the one you saw have the cd player attached or did you want to be able to connect an exterior one?
