Broody big hens!

Recommended Posts

Did you know that a fluffed up broody buff orpington joined by a broody black orpington fills a cube nest area completely :wall: Leaving 5 hens that want to lay very vocal try to get them to shift!

They look massive together in such a space - their size is not quite so obvious when free ranging.

Thank goodness I only have one Orp then!

One is enough though as her broodiness is driving me nuts now. She was broody for weeks and weeks up to 22nd June, then came out of it and started laying again but in the past couple of days she has decided to revert back to broody status!! :wall::wall:

I desperately need to sort out a dog crate to put her in :) Going off to search the local pre loved site. :)

I had a spare Eglu so when I had a broody I was putting them just in the run with food & water, so no nest which seemed to work - but thinking I didn't need it when we cleaned it last weekend I took it all to bits and stored it - that'll teach me!

I end up leaving the others in the cube/run and putting the orps on freeranging only (with food & water) to at least let the others lay.
