veggiemad
Well- it was a sad day yesturday. I went up to check on the girls after lunch to find sage on floor - I thought she had died, but when i went in to the run noticed she was still breathing. There were a fair few feathers around so not sur if she had had a fight with another hen and lost - although I could see no blood shed - or just that she had lay down and been pecked at. I seperated her in to a cat basket and laft her for a few hours , she was still hanging on so section of a sick bay in the WIR , but by the time I went back to her she'd died. She had had 11 months out of her battery cage- she had always struggled to feather back up, and still had virtually no tail. I realise how attached I am to my girls and hope the introduction of 4 new girls 8 weeks ago hadnt upset her. She had seemed fine up to this point, eating and rinking - not laid for months anyway. Just wondered if hens tend to peck at poorly ones when they are dying - is this normal?? RIP sage.
