I'll let you have the answers now...you all did very well - garden chicken keepers are definitely more knowledgeable! 1. What colour eggs would you expect an Araucana hen to lay? Greenish blue 2. Which breed holds the record for the most eggs laid in a year? This is a bit contentious as I've come across several different answers since posing the question so anything accepted here. The one I had was the Australorp because in trials in 1922-23, 6 hens set a world record by laying 1857 eggs (that's an average of 309.5 for each hen) in a 365 day trial period without artificial lighting! 3. It's the chicken's voicebox and is found at the lung end of trachea 14. What colour eggs do Campine hens lay? White 15. What classification does the Nankin carry? Again, according to the British Poultry Standards book, it is classed as a Rare True Bantam 16. What is the Spitzhauben from which the Appenzeller Spitzhauben gets its name? The Appenzeller Spitzhauben got its name because its crest resembles the pointed bonnet worn by women in the Appenzeller area. This bonnet is called a Spitzhauben. 17.
