HENthusiastic
Hi Guys, I've been trawling around google searches and yahoo web pages for AGES trying to work out how to set up a free web page. Everybody tells me its really easy. But I can't work it out. Could anybody explain in easy to understand steps what I do please. I cant even find a starting place. Also, I dont even know what a domain name is..... is that the www. address. I know I have to register a domain name and pay a one off fee for it. But apart from that I am totally lost! I'm with yahoo mail, so I assume its easiest for me to just go with a yahoo web page. Please help
LuckyChickenLover-
Some websites allow you to set up a free web page with them, but one drawback is that their name is featured in your domain name. And yes, you are correct in thinking that the www. is the domain name. Try Weebly At school we used a program called Adobe Dreamweaver to design our own webpages, although we never actually published them into proper pages on the web. Two of my friends have made their own web sites. I'll ask them and get back to you. Lewis
I had to make a website for some theatre stuff and used Streamline.net - wasn't very impressed with the support though The domain is the website address - so Omlet.co.uk etc. Weebly is good - was quite easy when I had a play with it I used to use freewebs, now webs.com and that was easy too
Snowy
You need to buy your domain name - decide what you want to be called and google it to see if it's taken. It's cheap enough, but depends on whether you want a .co.uk or .com name. Then you need to design your website using dream weaver or microsoft office publisher. Then buy some webspace to host it on. Costs vary depending on how many pages your web site will have. I've used 1&1 or Mr site, both quite straightforward. They usually have templates that you can use to do some basic webpages, but they are not very flexible.
karlotta
Depending on what content you want to put on there a blog might suit you... you can choose the URL and they are very versatile now. Blogger and Wordpress are the best ones.
chickinboy
I use wix.com for design, and buy the domain and hosting space as a package from 123reg. it's really easy, just go with the basic package....
Geoid
It depends what you want to use it for. Do you want a blog? A photo gallery? A normal site? Do you want your own personal domain name?
Happy chickens!
Hi I use this http://www.officelive.com/en-GB/ (Microsoft) - it's free if you don't mind a lengthy web address which will have the name you want in, or for a few pounds a year you can buy your own domain so you have 'myweb.co.uk' or .com etc. You can add blogs for free, it's all template based and very easy to use and comes with free hotmail e-mails too. Good luck!
HENthusiastic
Hi guys, Thank you all so much for your replys. I've had a look at weebly, so far, and it does seem quite easy to use; even for me! Thanks. Just to clarify, I'm setting up a small business. I'm not expecting people to find me via web site searches, coz I know thats complicated. Really, what I was wanting to do was make up some cards with the web address on it, so people can just pick up a card and then go to my web site to get further info. Oh and having a paypall facility would be good too.

Lewis
Be careful what you click with vistaprint - they tend to sign you up for a monthly-fee, so make sure you cancel that tick box!
