Will my frizzle be OK?

Recommended Posts

She is in with the wyandotte and getting the odd peck but nothing major, however she is doing a continuing warbling and keeps trying to nest underneath the dotte - I feel so sorry for her. The little millefleur was always cuddled up to her :( There is only a 2-3 week age difference but sizewise your really notice it. Am trying to get her a little friend :)

Poor little thing. She is probably in shock. I had a recent tragedy with my bantams, when a predator managed to get into the locked eglu at night, kill a wyandotte bantam and attack a frizzle. In fact it bit into the frizzle's crop as well as the back of her neck. How she survived I don't know, but she has been on baytril for 10 days and seems to be absolutely fine now. When I found her, she was clearly in shock so I put her in a cat carrier and brought her into the house to keep her warm and quiet and it seemed to help. Maybe you could try doing something similar with your little frizzle - with the dotte for company - and see if it helps. Good luck - I hope she will be ok.

There is a 3 week age difference between my Welsummer and my Light Sussex. The Welsummer snuggles up to the sussex although it is getting less now they are getting older. I'm sure your Frizzle will be fine. it took about a week for my new girls to bond but they get on really well now.

Sorry, didn't mean to alarm anyone. The general consensus is that it was a mink/stoat/ferret type creature which nibbled away at the hole at the bottom of the nesting box and managed to get into the eglu. I have now blocked all access to the underneath of the eglu with bricks, wire and wire wool. I think, and hope, that it was a rare occurence - I have had hens for 3 years and nothing like this has happened before, so I guess I was just very unlucky.

6 weeks but to be honest I think looks younger, the dotte is being very good really - she tolerates it for about 2 minutes then moves  Frizzle has dug herself a nice hole in the bedmax now and looks more frazzled then frizzle(imagine an ostrich who's had an electric shock) and she is very noisy  Redwing - she is alert and interested and the dotte is being very kind :)
