So that's where they were!

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I have a white leghorn cross which is a really good layer, but she stopped laying for about a week - or so we thought. Today she was making little clucking noises and hiding under some bushes, so I left her there for a while. When she re-emerged I went to look under the bush and found a clutch of ELEVEN lovely eggs!

So that's where they were all along. My question is, do you reckon they would be ok to eat? We had rain a few days ago but the clutch were well sheltered. It would be such a shame to waste all those lovely eggs, but obviously they have not been stored in ideal conditions.

Also, how do I tempt her to lay in the Eglu again?

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies!

As it's raining outside today I think that a big baking session is an excellent idea!

I've put some hay in the nest pan to try and make it a more attractive nest. I switched from using Aubiose to Easibed a few weeks ago - could this be the reason why she has chosen to lay somewhere else? I noticed that Easibed smells quite pine-y whereas Aubiose doesn't smell at all.
