janeears
Can you tell that I'm SOOOO excited! We kept chickens years ago but, since our house move, have been without our 'girls'. I've finally talked my (long-suffering) husband into getting some more ........ and it's happening THIS WEEK!! The red eglu is being delivered tomorrow and I'm collecting the chooks from a local breeder on Wednesday. To say that I'm looking forward to it would be the understatement of the year! I've prepared the area for their run and spent hours on this forum. I can see me yearning for a WIR before too long ....... but daren't mention that to my husband for a while yet!!!! I'll post some pics of Eglu tomorrow, before you ask!!! CLUCK CLUCK!!
Bramble
Funny you should mention a WIR, I've only had my eglu and run for two weeks and want to get an extension BUT at the same time I'm thinking, 'wouldn't a walk in run be nice ... !?!? Thing is I really like the fox-proof-ness of the eglu and I worry if I made a WIR in wouldn't be the same ... if anyone from omlet is reading this PLEASE can you make a WIR!?! janeears
Thank you for your replies. Most of my friends think I'm absolutely mad but I know that you lot understand my excitement and sense of anticipation. (That didn't come out quite right but I hope you know what I mean!) migsy
Don't worry! We are all mad! WIRs can easily be made fox proof by using weldmesh panels (not chicken wire) and making sure you have a base that cannot be tunnelled through (e.g concrete or weldmesh). Sorry to tempt you, but look on Flyte so Fancy, Chirpy Coops and Bay Animal Housing.

janeears
You've won the prize, MummyHen!! Glad you approve! My 2 daughters (aged 10 and 11 years) are the ultimate fans of the books so our naming was a formality, really! Photos WILL be appearing later! janeears
Wow! Clever husband!! (It's only taken him an hour, mind you!!). The run and extension were easy to put together (for a blonde and an eleven year old). So impressed with the whole product - have spent most of day just sitting outside admiring our darling new chucks. More photos to come apparently............. Frenchie155
Ok - that seemed to work so here are the rest!
janeears
Thank you Frenchie155! I feel really emotional looking at these photos - they're gorgeous chickens and are already part of the family.
Frenchie155
We are all enjoying the Chickens - very pleased they went to bed with very little prompting last night!
MummyHen
That's a nice setup you've got Your pusskin will enjoy watching them - but he'll soon get bored with them (my two just ignore them now)
janeears
You can tell I've been scrutinising this forum carefully .............. Please note the green plastic edging strip (B&Q) around the run to prevent the wood chips being scattered all over the patio. We attached with some long plastic ties and it's working ..... so far! (Obviously very early days!)
janeears
Ditto the paving slabs in front of the eglu door to prevent the wood chips getting lodged in the mechanism. Whoever you are............ many thanks for a great, practical tip.
Sageandonion
Congratulations on your trio - they look very much at home already. Love the red eglu too .
Tutti Frutti
Yay! Lovely set up, lovely girlies (feathered and other variety). Did you get 2 small sections of mesh? You should fit them on the Eglu side of the run to prevent foxes digging under the eglu and into the run that way... here's a piccie, that'll show it far better than I could ever explain They're the little square bits on the very right hand side )
janeears
Yes, we did, TuttiFrutti. We actually put some decorative stones over the skirt and little end panels to make it look tidy. The run is next to our patio so we wanted to keep it halfway decent. The design of the run is fab - looks really secure.
