Bramble
Hello! Does anyone know of how/where I can recycle old clothes/fabrics etc - things that are too old for the charity shop? It seems a shame to just put them in the bin? Thanks
Tutti Frutti
Take them to your local Oxfam shop - anything that's unsellable or not worth sending abroad is sent to their Wastesaver recycling plant in Huddersfield
Bramble
Wow, that's brilliant, thank you very much!
winterwren
If you are a bit crafty you could make some good old fashioned lavender pouches, thats what I did with my old jeans with all the holes in!
Bramble
Another great idea, thank you!! In fact, I did use an old duvet cover to make some "sleep pillows" from hop/lavender mix, a la James Wong - the trouble is, one duvet cover goes a VERY long way!! gonetoearth
You can make pillowcases from an old duvet cover. You can make small bags, pencil cases with denim from old jeans and I saw a tutorial recently for turning the thick seams of jeans into drinks coasters which was ingenius. How about turning a child's dress into a skirt if there's sufficient fabric in the skirt.
Charlottechicken
Just bumping up this old thread I've made tote bags out of old clothes. I made a particularly nice hardwearing bag out of an old wool skirt. Not sure what's the best thing to do with old long sleeved tee shirts though, I might look up the nearest Oxfam
Lesley
I use old T shirts as cleaning cloths - they're excellent for windows, with Soda Water as the cleaner - I put it into a garden spray bottle.
Charlottechicken
The trouble is once they become cloths they take forever to wear out! I have cleaning cloths that were tops when I was 13, that was a long time ago
freddie
Old t shirts can be cut into strips and used for rag rugs We have some lovely ones made from just these things, and the colours tend to be bright and cheerful
chickweed
The bottom half of denim jeans' legs make strong drawstring bags, great for shoes, pegs, tools etc. Anything you can think of really.

craftyhunnypie
Oh give over & keep up with the trends! Lucy at Attic 24 uses old jumpers to make cushions with for her crochet work. Fuzzy woollen ones can be felted on a hot wash. Old t shirts can be cut up to make cute baby hats & little girls dresses make brilliant peg bags wit a bit of clever sewing. Old bras make good hanging baskets! (dependant on size) & pants on canes make excellent bird scarers! Emma.x
Olly
I could get a decent hanging basket (or two!) out of one of my bras, but I think hanging my pants over the vegetable patch would probably scare the neighbours more than the birds! I've got a rag rug on the go, that's where all my old clothes are going at the moment.
