Given I'm very up the duff now, I'm on the hunt for bed waterproofing for our bed (king, and also single for nursing), and for baby cribbage (moses basket then cotbed).

 

I want something that can absorb water breakage AND any baby mishaps, that is protective against mites as well as liquid, that will last a couple of years and is affordable and non-crisp-packety hot and noisy.

 

Can anyone recommend anything brandwise that they've actually tried? Or does anyone have any DIY tips - towels etc?

We use these kylies for my gran, they are really good and you just chuck them in the washing machine.

The pads for baby change/puppy training are the same as the ones we use in the hospital/for home births and really good for temporary use. Use a folded muslin on the baby's mattress especially under the head area to absorb dribble, then you don't have to keep changing the whole sheet.

 

In fact make sure you have LOTS of muslins. You will use them for EVERYTHING!

 

When are you due?

I use the terry waterproof ones as you don't get the sweatyness or noise from them. They just go in the washing machine so you wouls need a spare.

I used the disposable bed protectors esp for expectant mums from Mothercare, and a muslin folded in half for the moses basket to catch the baby dribbles. I also had several old terry nappies for clearing up after baby too.

I think the puppy ones are cheaper than Mothercare - even though they're the same thing!

I got a terry bed cover for our King size from Dunhelm. Had it on bed for 2 years as my little one dose sometimes still vomit on our bed.

Are the terry ones rubber backed? I knew someone who had one donkeys ears ago but haven't been able to google successfully for them. My big tesco and sainsbury's don't have waterproof ones, just the nice quilty ones.

oh, too late! I used maternity pads under our sheets for water breakage (HA, my waters had to be broken in hospital after four hours of pushing) and I have a brilliant terry waterproof sheet from John Lewis for when my Dad comes to stay in case his comvein leaks.

 

I actually used a pillow protector on my crib mattress, but as Mog slept on a sheepskin until July we never had any pukey or peeing problems. In fact, we never had any of those problems anyway (slightly smug)...
