I have heard that putting a spoonful of this in the water can be good for the chickens.

Is it okay to use shop bought (eg from tesco, sainsbury's etc) or should it be bought from a chicken food supplier, if this is the case what is the difference between the two?

Hi,

lots of people use Apple Cider vinegar in Chickens water at a rate of 10ml per litre.It promotes general good health, keeps feathers in tip top condition and helps prevent worms. So a very useful product

I put apple cider vinegar in my girls water. The shop stuff is ok, but is a bit refined. You should be able to get it

from where ever you get your chicken supplies, or on line. The one I have at the moment has garlic in it, and smells

lovely! You can put a garlic clove in the water and that helps with the chickens health.

It works out much cheaper to buy it in a large plastic container from somewhere like Countrywide or Mole valley, the type sold for horses is the stuff.

I put ACV in my chooks water for 3 days on, then 3 days off. I was advised 1 teaspoon per litre. Hope this helps!

You need to use the unrefined type - the one with the bits in it from a horsey type shop. I add a splash whenever I remember. You don't want to add too much and be prepared that some hens just don't like the taste. Mine fortunately go mad for it.

i was advised to just use it one week out of four as yes its very good for keeping worms away and keeping the chooks in good condition, but it can also destroy the good bacteria that lives in the chickens gut which is detramental to their health

I didn't realise you shouldn't use it all the time and have been adding a few drops every day, better cut down on it I guess

cant get my lot to drink the water if I add anything to it... but they prefer dirty water to nice clean fresh stuff anyway! I do keep trying with citricidal, but reckon on balance it's better if they are drinking rather than not.

I use ACV pretty much all the year around - although you can't use it in metal containers as it causes them to corrode.

Ideal for keeping the water sweet - just a splash a day - it says 10ml per litre on my container.
