Hazel_L
We're thinking about moving from the UK to Ireland (hopefully) but I can't seem to find any information about taking our girls with us. Tried looking on DEFRA and the Irish dept of agriculture website but it mainly covers dogs, cats and ferrets. I'll try and ring them - just wondered if anyone on here either knew, or had taken chickens with them...? We only have the three so it's hardly a flock (It's the Republic of Ireland rather than Northern Ireland) Thanks Hazel

Leanne
we were planning to move to Ireland a few years ago,(OH is half Irish) I too was concerned about my hens, I only had 2 then but refused to move unless I could take them with me! I remember I had trouble finding the right dept. to contact, it was an Irish governmental dept in Dublin, I remember spending ages trying to track down the right one. I think I emailed one dept in the end and asked for my email to be referred to the right one! Anyway, after a week or so I did receive a lnice etter, and application forms to fill in for the importation of my 2 hens (they count as livestock, not domestic pets) It was quite a straightforward form If I recall, (Not long after that OH fell ill, so the plans to move there were shelved. He is ok now, and we have since moved to Somerset) Hope this helps.

Do you know what department it was in case anyone else asks? Certainly It was http://www.agriculture.gov.ie/index.jsp?file=contact.xml , the Animal Health & Welfare Division, Import / Export of livestock, horses and birds. ETA - we specified that our hens are PETS and weren't being brought over for breeding or showing... apparently that makes a difference. Forms arrived this morning Just have to find a house now.... and sell ours..... and move of course...
