Hi everyone

Only had my girls GNRPP for 2 weeks but Im already considering keeping my eglu on a permanent site. I'd really appreciate advice on flooring as I've spent more than a few hours googling and Im still no wiser.

I use the extra fixings on my eglu in an effort to keep the fox out, so simply standing the eglu and run on paving stones cant be done. My only other option would be to just put paving stones inside the run but this would leave a lot of spaces around the edge. I did think of roof slates with a good covering (not hay or bark) but I think the slates would be far too slippery when wet.

Does anyone have a solution or at least some advice? I have the winter shade but I think I'll go for a clear tarpo on the run in winter so the run wont be getting too wet.

All advice gratefully received....

We had our eglu & converter on slabs before we upgraded to a cube.

For an eglu, run & converter 2'x2' slabs are more than adequate - 7x3 in number. This allows the whole unit to remin within the edge of the slabs. In fact we had the slabs set up as 5x3 with 2x2 for the eglu itself originally, adding 2 slabs to make 7x3 when we got the cube & 2 extensions. The length was the same for both units and similar for width also.

We levelled the ground, placed sand down and just placed the slabs on top. There's not been a need to fix the run down as the whole unit is heavy enough to be safe. It also prevents burrowing vermin getting in!

We also use aubiose, and sterilise with StalosanF when we dig the aubiose off. Get lovely compost material this way!

We used 3 clear corrugated sheets from B&Q over the run held in place by criss-crossed bungies. The chooks were very happy in this setup.

Hope this is helpful

Thanks for your replies - Im just so worried that without the extra 'pegs' the run is possibly not foxproof (our local fox has attitude). Great idea on the corrugated roof - better airflow than my clear tarpo idea. Are we sure about the weight keeping the fox out?

Hi,

I'm in the process of building the kickboard frame filled with bark chippings for my girlies they will have an extension (green eglu) to run about in too when it's finished.

I bought a clear plastic shower curtain to help protect them from the rain (it has little ducks on it) it attaches rather well to the run using it's own hooks and the fun shade holds it down at the other end.

Can I use cocoa shells in the mulch does anyone know?

Happy Sunday
