Lesley
As requested by Clare - my take on liver cake - it's a bit like fruit leather.......liver leathers I didn't like having smelly bits of moist liver cake in my pockets so I've been making it dryer - it doesn't smell and keeps well. I keep out enough for a week and freeze the rest. Both our dogs are OK with wheat and I make the Marmite Biscuits to break up and use as training treats. Liver Cake 1lb liver - minced 8oz plain flour 4 eggs 2 cloves garlic - chopped/minced/pressed Swiss roll type tin lined with non-stick paper. Oven 180C/Gas Mk4 Mix all ingredients really well. Spread over the non-stick paper - it should be a layer about 1-2cm thick. Bake for around 45 minutes, mark into strips, then turn the whole slab over, turn the oven down to 140C and bake for another hour. Leave to cool slightly and then cut the strips - leave overnight on a cooling tray to dry further. Leave to dry until you're happy with the texture (or until your dog is happy with the texture ) Marmite Biscuits 8 oz wholemeal flour 3 eggs Mix 2 level tsp Marmite with 2 tbsp of warm water. Swiss roll type tin lined with non-stick paper. Oven 180C Mix four, eggs and half the Marmite water into a thick paste, roll out to fit the tin, mark into strips and brush with the remainder of the Marmite water. Bake 30/35 mins then turn the whole slab over (brush with any of the Marmite water which is left) and bake for a further 20 mins until it seems dry. Leave to cool before breaking or cutting the biscuits.

The Dogmother
Thanks for that Lesley, I'll have a go at those, perhaps using spelt flour as hounds are less tolerant of wheat.
Lesley
I only ever use Spelt, both for us and the dogs - but it is still wheat are hounds OK with that?
The Dogmother
I think so, it's the gluten that they usually have a problem with. Must be something to do with their fast metabolism. I wasn't very specific, was I ? I usually just tell people to avoid products containing wheat if they have hounds; it's less specific, but easier to understand.
