Dolly
Having now tried EVERY feather pecking solution without success, Holly is now spending her daytimes alone in the spare eglu and run while the other 2 remain in the WIR. The runs are next to each other and all the girls can see each other, they all FR together when we get home and at the weekend. My question is... with the nights drawing in, they're likely to be spending the whole week separated and will only FR together at the weekends, so will this result in 'reintroduction / pecking order' problems brought on by the physical separation? Any thoughts gratefully received!
The Dogmother
I'm afraid that it probably would I can't believe that she's still at it!
Burtie14
I'm literally on the verge of segregating Ginger, who continues to peck at Jim. Like you Dolly, I seem to have tried everything else. Unfortunately between them they seem to have discovered a way of removing Jim's saddle, and so Ginger is able to start her subtle campaign of terror once again - just as he was starting to get some fluffy feathers coming through. I'm going to put our ark into the WIR and keep her in it for a week or so. I've tried this before for an hour or so, and she seemed really distressed by it - like a caged prisoner. Please reassure me that she's not going to find some way of self-harming.
The Dogmother
I'd pop her in it Burtie14, it really isn't fair on the bullied chickens.
Burtie14
I'd pop her in it Burtie14, it really isn't fair on the bullied chickens. You're right. Poor Jim doesn't bother anyone, he's a lovely peaceful chicken. He just wants a quiet life, and the occasional bit of sweetcorn, without having his bottom pecked at all hours by that ginger fiend. Dolly
Oh no Claret, it's not Roxy doing the pecking this time, it's Holly now! She obviously decided she'd had enough of being the victim and has been having a go herself for months now!
