Chicken Licken
Primrose is poorly. She is having a moult, but has been increasingly out of sorts. Not eating, very pale, not laid for weeks and with flourescent green poo. I took her to the vets on thursday who weighed her and said she is very thin, she had a temperature but did not have any of the symptoms of peritonitis so they gave her an injection of vetalgesic and a course of baytril and instructions to bring her back on monday for an x-ray if she does not perk up. She is getting better on the baytril, has rejoined the flock, eating a little and looking pinker in her wattles. The question is should I take her for the x-ray, and if they discovered something what possibly can they do to improve it. She is a 3+ year old speckledy. Does anyone have any advice please. Plum
If it was me and she is improving I would carry on with the antibiotics. I would think most problems can be palpated, percussed etc., unless they were looking for obstruction or fluid levels Guess it depends whether you are going to be willing to spend lots of dosh on high risk operations and treatments. We chicken keepers are very vulnerable to going to far without really being able to realistically improve things for the chickens. My vet found tumours by palpation on one of mine and talked about operations to remove the growths and ovaries but she wouldn't have stood much chance of surviving and if she did would have had a poor quality of life. So I didn't go down that route. It's an individual choice how far to go and when to know to let go. Anyway your girls improving
